L’olio di canapa per cani e gatti viene ottenuto attraverso la spremitura a freddo della pianta di canapa. Non c’è alcuna contaminazione con cannabinoidi psicotropi come il THC, di cui è completamente privo.

Olio di canapa: ricco di acido alfa linolenico (omega 3) e acido linoleico (omega 6), due acidi grassi essenziali importanti per la nutrizione degli animali. Contiene anche Vitamina E, una vitamina con proprietà antiossidanti naturali.

CBD for dogs: what does science say?

One clinical study randomized trial showed that oral administration of CBD at 2 mg/kg twice daily for four weeks led to a significant pain reduction e a un increase in activity in dogs with osteoarthritis, without significant side effects.

Another studio, in 2023, examined the effect of a single dose of CBD on dogs subjected to stressful situations, such as separation from their owners and car rides. The results showed that dogs given CBD exhibited reduced cortisol levels, a more stable heart rate and less anxious behaviors rispetto al gruppo placebo. In particolare, durante i test sull’ansia da separazione, i cani che avevano preso CBD risultavano meno tristi, tesi e a disagio rispetto a quelli del gruppo di controllo.

Other studies have focused on the effectiveness of CBD in cases of canine epilepsy, demonstrating that the addition of CBD to conventional antiepileptic therapy has reduced the frequency of seizures in dogs with idiopathic epilepsy.

CBD and cats: what science says

Even the relationship between CBD and cats seems to be a winning partnership in terms of well-being. A search has highlighted that the integration of CBD in the treatment of the chronic gingivostomatitis felina has improved the comfort and activity of cats, without significant adverse effects.

Another studio, which investigated the tolerability of CBD in healthy cats, showed that a daily administration of 4 mg/kg for 26 weeks was well tolerated and did not result in clinically significant changes in physiological parameters.

The mechanism of action of CBD for dogs and cats

Cannabidiol interacts with the endocannabinoid system present not only in humans but also in dogs and cats, influencing various physiological functions. The endocannabinoid system consists of receptors (CB1 and CB2), endocannabinoids, and enzymes that regulate their synthesis and degradation.

In dogs and cats, CB1 receptors are predominantly located in the central nervous system, while CB2 are mainly found in the immune system and in the peripheral tissues. CBD modulates the endocannabinoid system influencing directly and indirectly the activity of CB1 and CB2 receptors and thus contributing to the regulation of processes such as inflammation and pain perception.

In addition to the endocannabinoid system, CBD interacts with other receptors:

TRPV1 Receptors: involved in pain perception and body temperature regulation. CBD acts as an agonist of these receptors, contributing to the pain and inflammation modulation

5-HT1A Receptors: associated with the modulation of anxiety and mood. The interaction with these receptors allows cannabidiol to be a natural calming agent effective e un support in case of panic attacks and anxiety

PPARγ Receptors: involved in the regulation of inflammation and lipid metabolism. CBD activates these receptors, producing anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects

Dosage of hemp oil with CBD for dogs and cats

Innanzitutto, ricorda di agitare la confezione prima dell’uso e conservare l’olio di canapa in frigorifero una volta aperto.

Per quanto riguarda il dosaggio si consiglia di utilizzare olio di canapa a piccole dosi.

Per i cani si potrebbe iniziare con 3 gocce ogni 5 kg di peso. Per i gatti invece, si potrebbe iniziare con 1 goccia ogni 5 kg di peso.

1 goccia contiene all'incirca 1.5 mg di estratto di canapa

In caso di problemi particolari o assunzione di farmaci, è fondamentale coinvolgere il veterinario di fiducia, che in base al singolo caso potrà suggerire un utilizzo adeguato.
